Based our family DNA, we believe this is the generation we have in common with our Evans cousins.

Jordan was born in 1829 or 1830 in Mecklenburg county . He died before 1900.

We don’t know a lot about Jordan, records suggest he was the son of Ruben Evans. He was married at least 4 times, .

He was for some period married to a Mary and had a son Henry - and we believe our Annie.

Our Mary Evans was also married several times, at least 3 times, and records show that Henry Evans was a child of the marriage between Jordan Evans and Mary. While there is no record of Henry Evans with either Mary or Jordan later on, another child born to Mary of this marrage would work in her records. As Sophonia was born in 1857 and Annie was born in 1861.

We believe Jordan is descended from the well documented Evans family, a mixed race family that was of European, African and Native American descent.

Although Jordan was black or mulatto he was free because he descended from Jane Gibson, a Powhatan Native American married into the Evans famiy. Her grandsons settled in Lunenburg, Brunswich and Mecklenburg counties.

DNA tests have confirmed our connection to this Evans line.
