Anne or Annie is listed in the census as “mixed” and “mulatto”. Ann was born in 1861. She was married at the age of 14. She had her first child in 1878 at the age of either 15 or 17. Richmond was 6 older than she was at the time. We believe Annie’s mother also mixed race descended From the Potowhan, African and European Evans family.

Together Richmond and Annie had at least seven children. Annie could neither read nor write. Ruth stated that Annie died and her daughter Irene was left to care for her younger siblings. 1900 is the last census we have with Annie and by 1910 her family disappears from the record completely.
