Notes for Benjamin Deen
7

Benjamin states he was born in Virginia which would confirm his birth before 1818, and could have been as early as 1814. He attended school as a child in Coshocton, Ohio and could read and write. He seems to have left Mary Ann during the Civil War and began a family with a younger neighbor, a seamstress also named Mary.

Evidence suggests Benjamin left Mary Ann for another woman, also named Mary, around the time Perry Newton Deen was born. Mary Ann returned to Indiana while Benjamin and Mary moved to Illinois with their son Wesley. They had three more children, Charles, Joseph and Minnie and ultimately settled in Missouri, where Benjamin lived to be over 86 years old.

This is the currently accepted, yet contested history of Benjamin Dean.
Benjamin Deen, born 1820 in Tuscarawas Co, OH, married Mary Ann Andrews 11 Oct 1835 in Tuscarawas County. Mary, daughter of Hazel Andrews and Martha Archbold, was born 1819 in Tuscarawas County and died 1900 in Adams Co, IN. Their children were Hazel, born 1842, Enos, born 1844, Malinda, born 1846, Louisa A, born 1845, Thomas, born 1846, Nancy Ann, born 1849, Martha I, born 1851, Geoge W, born 1855, and Perry Newton, born 1865. Benjamin died before 1870; however, he appears to actually start a new family, settling in Greenfield, Missouri by 1880
