Arthur Humphrey is listed as one of the thirty-nine original settlers of New Roxbury, later Woodstock, CT in 1686.
Arthur Humphrey is also recorded that "he and other sons of Woodstock helped to lay the foundations of Ashford" around 1718.
Husband of Rachel Rice buried next to him. Although their tombstones show the name spelled as Humphery, local histories and successive generations have spelled the surname "Humphrey" . Arthur moved from Roxbury, MA to Woodstock, MA , then to Ashford, MA and is well documented in local histories. Some of his descendants settled in Oxford, MA - successive generations through his line all named Arthur Humphrey through about 8 generations settled in Goshen, NH - then Corinth, VT, and later were the first settlers in the town of Holland, Erie Co. NY in 1809. Others settled near Patriot, Switzerland Co., IN.
