Notes for Anne Stradling
18

Anne Stradling was born, 1469,[1] the daughter of John Stradling, of Dauntsey, and Alice Langford. At the time of the death of her father she was the heiress to Dantsey although her brother, Edward, held that honour when he came of age. Her brother, died 25 July 1488, a few months after her marriage, and Anne is confirmed as sister and heir to Edward Stradling, of Dauntsey, shortly after, bringing the lands and titles of Dauntsey into the family of Danvers.

She married John Danvers and the marriage certificate has been preserved. They were married on the 13th December 1487, in the chapel of the Holy Trinity, within the precincts of the College of St. Martin-le-Grand, London.[2]

She is said to have outlived her husband by 25 years[3] and died at Dauntsey in 1539. Macnamara mentions that, after her husband died, she took vows although it might be presumed that this after her children were married. Her Will survives and is noted in Macnamara's work. Her Will demonstrates that she was an extraordinary business women with a fine grasp of the geopolitical issues of the day.
