Notes for George Brown

George was the son of George Brown and Jane Threeder. [citation needed]

George Browne married Christian Hibbert on September 30, 1611 in St. Edmunds Church, Salisbury, Wiltshire County, England. [1] [2]

1618/9: Jan. 9: Marie Abbott of Salisbury, England, widow, left 2 shillings apiece to Richard, Daniel, and George Browne. She also mentions her grandchildren named Dove, and directs that she be buried in St. Edmund's church. [1]

It appears from his estate inventory that he was a brewer by trade. [1]

George died at Wiltshire England and was buried there on Oct. 29, 1633. [3]

In his will he left bequests to:

wife Christian, executrix, half of his estate
elder son Henry 20 shillings
son William 20 shillings at the age of 21.
son George 5 pounds
son Abraham 5 pounds.
The remaining half of his estate to sons Henry and William. The legacies to sons George and Abraham to be delivered to "my Master Francis Dove, for the benefit of my said two sons." Overseers Mr. John Dove and Francis Dove. [1]

His estate inventory taken by William Gardner and John Martin, weaver, amounted to 30 pounds, 1 shilling. [1]

After his death, widow Christian Browne, joined a group of fellow parishioners, under the guidance of Francis Dove, to embark from Salisbury in 1638 and to found a 'new Salisbury' in New England. [1]

She arrived in New England in 1638/9, with three sons, Henry, William and George, but died shortly thereafter on Dec. 28, 1641. [1] [4]
