1774 Benjamin Franklin Wayne was reportedly born in Virginia in 1774 and perhaps died in Wisconsin in September 1838, though his estate is recorded in Edgar County Illinois. Note that this assumption of his death conflicts with DAR records which established his death in 1852 in Wisconsin per tombstones in a cemetary near Georgetown, Wisconsin. DAR Applications show children John, Franklin, Churchill J., Sydney Ann, Nancy, Katherine, Lucy, Mary, Susan and George.

1779 Age 5 - Future wife Nancy Tankersley reported as born in Virginia by DAR researchers. History of Macoupin County notes Nancy as emigrating to Richmond Virginia from Ireland with her parents "when she was very young"

1801 Age 27 - Register of Marriages in Campbell County, Virginia 1800 -1810 Citation, page 106: Benjamin Wayne to Ann Tankersly, April 11, 1801, Henry Brown presiding. Ann is 22 at the time.

1810 Age 36 - County Clerk Tax Assessment Records of Montgomery County, Kentucky list Benjamin Wayne, taxed on the basis of one white male over 21 and 2 horses. John Wain is also listed separately

1810 Age 37 - US Census of Montgomery County Kentucky shows Benjamin Wayne, 2 sons and 4 daughters under 10 years old

1815 Age 41 - Said "to have fought with Andrew Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans when old Packingham was worsted." cited in 1902 letter from grandson Churchill Wayne. The battle was fought on January 8, 1815.

1815 Age 41 - National Archives War of 1812 Records list a Benjamin Wayne, private, as enlisting on February 8, 1815 on the roll of Captain Simon Galaspie's Kentucky Militia, commanded by Lt. Col. John Francisco. The record shows his discharge one month later on March 7, 1815.

1820 Age 47 - Census of Montgomery County Kentucky shows Benjamin Wayne, page 281, no township listed. Family notes one son and three daughters under 10, two sons and two daughters between 10 and 16 and two daughters between 16 and 26 . List includes one "extra" female over known daughter names.

1828 Age 54 - Moved to Edgar County, Illinois, Embarrass Township from Kentucky with family. Others moving in at same time include Dohhetee Brothers and Thomas Darnall

1830 Age 56 - Edgar County Illinois US Census lists a Benjamin Wane family residing in Edgar County, with one son between 5-10 , one son between 10-15 , one daughter between 10-15 , one daughter between 15-20 . Benjamin is apparently listed as being between 50-60, as is his wife.

1833 Age 59 - Estate papers filed in Edgar County list medical expenses totaling $12 from 16 March through 28 March "for daughter" and a 3 May medication "for self"

1834 Age 60 - Estate papers filed in Edgar County list medical expenses "for Susan" on 22 July 1834, "for William Jr." on 10 August 1834, and "for self" in September

1837 Age 63 - Estate Papers indicate medical expenses owed to Dr L. Mineas in June and July 1837 of $2.87 for "2 oz. Bitters Powders", 1 Box Pills and 3 Physics".

1838 Age 64 - Estate Papers list debt to Mk & W Alexander for $17.80 for value received on 27 March 1838 and to James Flack for $10 on 12 May 1838. Medical expenses for "self" and "lady" and are listed through August 29 1838, with the last two charges, for a visit on August 29 deducted

1838 Age 64 - Estate Papers of Benjamin Wayne, "late of Grant County Wisconsin", recorded in Edgar County Illinois indicating death in September 1838. Records include an inventory of possessions totaling $424.12 1/2 dated 4 October 1838 and listing of debts, primarily medical expenses.

1839 Deceased - Son George Wayne marries Sarah Thompson on October 5 perhaps after one year of mourning at the death of his father.

1839 Deceased - Daughter Susan Wayne marries William Greever on December 9 again

1840 Deceased - US Census for Illinois lists household of Nancy Wayne with five children residing at home, but no notation of Benjamin

1840 Deceased - Son John Wayne marries Narcissa Jane Eaton in Edgar County, Illinois

1846 Deceased - Edgar County Illinois Land Records note the sale of land inherited by Benjamin Wayne from his father John Wayne by the "heirs of Benjamin Wayne" including Silas P. Luce and wife Nancy, Nancy Wayne, Susannah Greever and Benjamin Franklin Wayne for those who had relocated to Grant County Illinois, as recorded on 21 May 1846 A second deed transfer, recorded in Edgar County on 28 May 1846 lists heirs John Wayne, Narcssa Jane Wayne, Isaac P. Daugherty, Sidney Ann Daugherty, Benjamin F Wayne, Elijah Arahood, Lucy Arahood, Daniel Reed and Polly Reed

1852 Would be 78 - DAR researchers list 1852 as date of death based on recorded tombstone in cemetery near Georgetown, Wisconsin states birth and death and that of spouse Nancy Tankersley also.

History of Macoupin County Illinois John Wayne as the father of Benjamin Wayne and notes that "Benjamin Franklin Wayne was born and raised in raised in Virginia and married Nancy Tankesly, who was a native of Ireland, and came to Richmond, Virginia with her parents when quite small." The biography notes the move of both John and Benjamin to Kentucky and that Benjamin Franklin Wayne was a soldier in the war of 1812 and served under General Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans

Your mother's great grandfather was also named Benjamin Wayne. He married a woman named Mary. They had born to them John, Isaac, Humphrey, Sidney, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Churchill."

Your great, great grandfather's wife was Mary. Their son was your great grandfather, Benjamin Wayne. He fought with Jackson at the Battle of New Orleans when old Packingham was worsted. I quote this from information from my old Uncle Churchill who is now in his 89th year."

County History of Douglas Illinois Historical and Biographical, 1884 page 526 states that Benjamin Wayne was a nephew of General Wayne "Mad Anthony" of the Revolutionary struggle, and the "white man's chief that never sleeps" of the Indian Wars, and of whom the Indians also called "Blacksnake".
