Aser Clark has E. J. Clark on his tombstone in Walnut, Born 1828, died July 1909.
Wife was Nancy, born 1846, died May 1913. She was l8 years younger than Acer.
Children were Sarah 1878, Noll and her children were Mabel and Ivy, then brother William lived in Walnut, Perry lived in Missouri, and Anna lived in Atlantic.
Since Sarah was the oldest , it is very possible Wm. and Perry were born after 1880.  Sarah died in 1909 at age of 32, so in 1935 when we saw Wm and Perry they would have been near 60---all the same generation---.
William and Perry came to see us when I was about 8, Danny about 6. I suppose Perry had come to visit William and they decided to pass the Kentucky rifle on to the next generation, my Dad Jesse was the only man in the family in Walnut. The men were Jesse's uncles, Sarah Deen's brothers.   Neither men had married.
I remember they were old, short of stature, wore dark clothes, not very talkative. My Dad didn't care a hoot about the rifle and they didn't tell much about it, or I would have learned all I could.

You have Aser Clark as E.J. in your Deen book, do you suppose Aser was a nickname of some sort? Could there have been another Aser Clark in Monroe Township census?  I have no knowledge of the names you found, John, Ina or Lovisa.  Or could E. J. Clark have a previous marriage and those children in that marriage.  There was a l8 years gap in ages between Acer and Nancy.

1870 Census - but neither of these could have been our EJ:
