Notes for Adam Burton Perkins
THE CRITTENDEN PRESS - Nov. 15, 1894 -
PERKINS, BERT - An Eighty Year Old Man Wanders Away.

A reward of $50 offered for him. Some weeks ago the Press mentioned the fact the Mr. Bert Perkins had wandered away from the county poor house. He has not yet been heard of, and his friends are very uneasy about him.
Mr. Wash Perkins, a brother of the lost man, was in town Tuesday making diligent inquiries about him. Three weeks ago last Thursday, the old man was seen walking down the road that leads from the poor house. Since that day no one has seen or heard of the feeble old man. He was almost blind, his hearing was very much impaired and he was tottering in his walk and very weak every way, both phisically and mentally, but that report proved to be false The county adjacent to the poor house has been searched for the missing man, but no trace, whatever, was found of him, and he seems to have been as completely lost as if the earth had swallowed him. The County Judge offers a reward of $50 for him and it is to be hoped that he will turn up all right, the most plausible therory, considering his condition is that he wandered away into the woods, became bewildered and perished.

Nov. 22, 1894 - Search has not yet revealed the whereabouts of old Mr. Perkins; even the $50 offered by the county judge has so far failed.
On next Saturday all the citizens of that section will meet at the poor house and make a close search of all the adjacent county, it being the general opinion that the old man perished away from the house. Mr. Wash Perkins, brother of the man, has for two weeks made an earnest search for him, and he sincerely hopes that the people will turn out next Saturday and help in scouring the country for miles around.
LATER: The dead body of the man was found this morning, in a corn field, not far from the poor house. While gathering corn, Mr. Newcom's boys found it and brought the body to town.

Nov. 29, 1894 - Frances Community Items:
The remains of A.B. Perkins were intered at the Matthews Graveyard. He was an old gentleman who wandered off from the Poor House and died. It was a sad affair. He was a hard working man and deserved a better fate.
