Notes for Elias Parmenter
Permenter, Elijas, son of Georg and Mary was born March 13, 1705-6 in Sudbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[1]

Elias Parmenter of Hopkinton, MA was a pvt. in in Military Expeditions of the Eastern Frontier from 5/31 to 9/13 in 1754. He served for 15 weeks and 1 day in the company of Capt. John Johnson.[2]

Although the town clerk of Sudbury, MA identified him as Elijas Permenter in the birth record, he was called Elias in Hopkinton, MA where he is listed as the father of numerous children.

The births of eight children of Elias and Thankfull are listed.[3]

Elias Parmenter married Thankful Cheney NOT Thankful Baker. This is proved from original documents described in the article “Thankful Cheney, wife of Elias Parmenter of Hopkinton, Mass.” by Claude W. Barlow, The American Genealogist, Vol. 33, No. 1, pages 7-11, January, 1957.

The article has details on a number of wills and land deeds of the Cheney family. The short of it, Thankful Cheney was given a piece of land in her father, Joseph Cheney’s will. In 1729 Elias Parmenter and his wife Thankful deeded that same piece of land to John Robbins. The author reviewed all of the original documents in preparing the article and they clearly show that Elias Parmenter married Thankful Cheney. They were married in about 1728 and there is no indication of a previous marriage to a Thankful Baker. Note that all of the recorded children for Elias and Thankful Cheney were born after 1728.
