David Peebles, a Royalist officer condemned to the block by Cromwell along with some 300 followers of Charles I, escaped to Virginia where he served as a Justice of the County Court of Charles City County from 1655 to 1665.He was vestryman of Westover Parish and served as Captain in the militia.He was injured in the summer of 1656 during an engagement with hostile Indians and lived as an invalid for two more years until his death in 1659.
