There is not a lot of proof that William Devore was the father of the Rebecca Devore who was the wife of Jeremiah Washburn. William Devore did have a daughter named Rebecca Devore who was baptised March 15, 1742 in the Reformed Dutch Church at Smithfield, PA. However, according to statements from descendants of Rebecca Devore in the Draper MS, she was the sister of Nicholas Devore born 1732 and Jeremiah Devore born about 1740. William Devore and Catharina Schoonmaker were not married until 1740, therefore, I believe that William Devore probably had a wife prior to Catharina and that Nicholas and Jeremiah are sons by William's first wife and that Rebecca may also have been a daughter of William's first wife or she may be Catharina's daughter and a half-sister to Nicholas and Jeremiah Devore. Also, I believe that if Rebecca Devore, daughter of William Devore, was the wife of Jeremiah Washburn, she may have been born earlier than 1742 or even 1741. If she was born in 1741, she would have been 16 years old when her first son, George Washburn, was born in 1757 and perhaps married at 15 which is possible, but if she was actually the daughter of William's first wife, she may have had an ealier date of birth, but was not baptised until 1742. Family stories have Rebecca's middle name as Decker and as Catharina Schoonmaker's mother was a Decker, this is evidence that Catharina was Rebecca Washburn's mother. Since, I don't have actual proof that the Rebecca Devore baptised in 1742, daughter of William Devore was the wife of Jeremiah Washburn and I have some doubt that Rebecca was the daughter of Catharina Schoonmaker I have chosen to include Rebecca with Nicholas and Jeremiah Devore under William Devore, but with an unknown wife.
