According to "Early Settlers of Lee County, Virginia and Adjacent Counties" by Anne M. Wynn Laningham, Stephen Bailey was born in Gloucester around 1625, and he later migrated to Westmoreland, Virginia.
Stephen Bailey was probably the 1st Bailey immigrant to America. He was born about 1610-1620. He appreared with other Baileys , probably brothers or cousins in Northcumberland County, Va about 1650. He was mamber of Coble Parish and was probably a Cavalier from the English Civil War. In May 21 1660 he married Ann Walker, widow of Willaim Walker. Walker left 100 acres . Stephen Bailey died in Westmoreland Co, Va in 1697. There is evidence he was from Gloucestershire England. Stephen left a will naming his heirs:
