JOSEPH Shearin
2 was born 1687 in PA or VA, and died 1751 in Granville Co., NC. He married AMELIA Peebles on Abt. 1708.

 Notes for JOSEPH Shearin:
Joseph SHEARIN 2 was born in 1687 in Pennsylvania or Virginia. He died in 1751 in Granville Co., NC. He was buried in Shearin Cemetery near Littleton, NC. There is evidence that at least one family of Sherrons was living in the Christiana Parish in Newcastle County, Pennsylvania as early as 1700. Only speculation, but it is possible that Joseph may have had siblings in that area and he may have been born and reared in New Castle County, Pennsylvania . Like many, including this writer's paternal ancestors, Joseph may have migrated down the big valley of Virginia, possibly through Suffolk County, Virginia, to the Halifax-Warren County area of North Carolina. One family researcher has located an Andrew Sherron in the New Castle County, PA area in the late 1700's. We know Joseph was in Brunswick County, Virginia, 7 July 1726, when he was granted land on the East side of Three Creeks . Based on his father allegedly being either Aaron or Moses Shearing, deported from England for their part in the rebellion against the Church of England, it would be reasonable to assume they were English and consequently Joseph would be of English descent. However, that theory has not been proven. Other researchers have concluded, and this writer's research into the name, it's meaning, and fragmented history of the family in Ireland, supports the real possibility Joseph is of Irish, or as some say "Scotch Irish" ancestors.

Joseph prepared his will in 1751 and died the following year in Granville County, North Carolina. From his will we know that he had at least one son, John Shearin, and two daughters, one, whose name is not known, and one named Lucy Catherine Shearin. Joseph's will is a very good example of the variation in the spelling of the name, in that the name appears to be "Sherin" in one place and "Sharin" in another, but the court officer wrote it as "Shearin".

Will of Joseph Shearin
