Notes for William I of Symonsbury Hallett

The earliest documented Hallett - connection to earlier Halletts Halydays is questionable

"The Halletts of Dorsetshire and neighboring Somersetshire bore a coat of arms but do not appear to have recorded their pedigree in the heralds' visitations. Thus they were of the minor gentry, presumably with younger branches who lacked entailed estates. This is in keep with the style 'gentleman' used to designate Andrew Hallett in Yarmouth. See Genealogical Notes of Barnstable, Mass., Families , wherein the Yarmouth and Barnstable Halletts are shown to have descended from Andrew Hallett, 'gentleman';

"Provisional Ancestry of Andrew Hallett

1. William Hallett, the elder of Symondsbury, Dorset. Will dated 10 Feb. 1566/7, proved 1572. He mentioned sons Androe, Richard, Robert, John and William. Witnesses: Androe holcomb and Androe Hawkins. He was probably relate to two other Hallets in nearby Netherbury, who left wills; John Hallet and Joan Hallet ."
