The son of THOMAS & MARIA STANTON, he married AVIS ALMY, daughter of CHRISTOPHER & ANNE ALMY.

Robert Stantan was an early settler of Newport and was the progenitor of the Honorable Edwin Stanton of President Abraham Lincoln's cabinet. He died at age 73 yr.

1627-38: Robert and Avis Stanton emigrated to America and settled in Newport, RI during this period.
1638- He and others were admitted inhabitants of the island of Aduidneck, which later encompassed Newport, Middletown , and Portsmouth, RI.
