Anomalies - Ruth is not included in the family household in the 1930 US Federal Census, and was not baptized until age 6.

Ruth was the only child born to this marriage, but she had three half-sisters who ranged in age from about 15 to 25 years older than she was. The family left Brooklyn at some point after Ruth’s birth and moved to Corona, Queens. They returned when Ruth was about 4 years old during the Depression when they could no longer afford to maintain two homes.

She was raised at 51 St. Felix Street in Kings Country, Brooklyn near the Brooklyn Academy of Music. We were also told she had a brother who did not survive infancy. She was raised in close proximity to her niece Eleanor who was two and a half years younger.
