John M. McCollum b. 1758 in Argylshire, Scotland, d. 1823 in Windsor
Township, Morgan County, Ohio. Enlisted on 11-4-1775 and served in
the 1st South Carolina Regiment commanded by Col C. Pinckney. He was
captured by the British and taken to Nova Scotia. While in Nova
Scotia he met Lucy Fordice. Although she was born in the US, her
parents were loyalists and moved to Nova Scotia when the Revolution
began. When she married John McCollum, she was disinherited by her
father. After their marriage they moved to Massachusetts. They later
joined a colonizing party, the Ohio Company of Associates and planned
to move to Marietta, Ohio. Because of the Indian wars, they stopped
at Brownville, PA , about 12 miles south of
Pittsburgh. When the area became more peaceful they moved west and
settled in Windsor Township, Morgan County, OH. Lucy also died in
1823 at the same location as John. John's father was Archibald
McCollum. Lucy's parents were John Fordice, b. 25Nov1742 in North
Kingston, RI, d. 1809 in Dunham, Quebec, Canada and her mother was
Elizabeth Stanton, b. 1Apr1747 d. Sep1816 born & died in South
Kingston, RI.
