Dear Anthony,
Our daughter said she located you and gave me your e-mail. My mother has wondered about her half brothers and wondered if they were alive. I'll give this note you sent to Jayne, tomorrow. She will be so happy. She's in a nursing home and does quite well for her age.88 . She had a sister Leona 1 year older and 2 half brothers, one your grandfather, and Chubb. Mother said Chubb adopted his wife's children. I do have a picture of Fred I will make a copy and send to you or Jayne can send over the e-mail. I can't do that. I have to find the picture first. He was a huge man with a mustache I know. He died when my mother was 7 . Her mother died when she was a couple months old. Her step-mother raised her and Leona. This lady had a daughter named Mary and she was my mothers step-sister. Fred died during a lightening storm that struck a tree that was falling on his car, he jumped into the car to move it and the tree crushed him. My mother was standing on the porch and watched this happen. We take my mother to Walnut where she grew up and she names everyone and where they lived. She remembers when she was a child. If you have questions, I'll print them out and ask her. Fred was 6'4", large feet and red hair. In his picture he was bald. Very stern man. He would beat her with a belt. One thing she tells over and over is her dad had a bakery and a colored man worked for him. Her dad made her kiss him and she never forgot that. Who lived in Des Moines on the east side? I remember going to a funeral for one of her half brothers. Was it Jesse? I think Chubb lived in Otumwa.
I'm glad our daughter found you. My mother will be very happy. Please send Jayne pictures of you and family with names and relations.
