"David married again years after Ella died, to a neighbor woman. He
was in the monument business in Harlan, and in the late 20's sold and
moved to Marshalltown, buying another monument business because he
couldn't stand retirement. I was at Grinnell then and visited them
frequently. Hitch hiking was in vogue. Shirley was in the L.A. area
and married here. They lived in Alhambra and had no children. I
came here in '41 and stayed with them until I found a job and was in
the electronics school. They had no children. Some time after the
war they moved to the fern and stump country south of Portland, Ore.,
where we visited them a couple of times on our way to see friends and
also Julia Potts, my father's cousin from Wellman, Ia. Chas. died
there of lung cancer, and is here in Forest Lawn in Glendale. She
died 3 or 4 years ago and is also here."
