Nettie came from IA to help a sister and her husband cook at a lumber

camp. She and Paul met at the lumber camp in Pioneer, MT. Her three

oldest children born in Pioneer.[wftemp2.FTW]

Born June 16th 1880 in Exira, Audubon County, Iowa. Parents Jonathon

and Mary Marlenee Decker. Bertha had come from Iowa to help a sister
and her husband cook at a lumber camp. Paul and Bertha met at the
lumber camp. She was married in Butte in1902. Passed away 1:30 Dec
7, 1948.

Mrs. Bertha Nettie Simmert, 68, resident of western Montana for 50
years, died Tuesday afternoon at
the home of a daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Schmautz, 2011 McCulough
Avenue, after an illness of several
years. Funeral arrangements are pending at the Marsh & Powell
mortuary.

Mrs. Simmert was born in Exira, Iowa, June 16 1880, daughter of
Jonathan and Mary Decker. She
came to Gold Creek when 18 years old and lived with a brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. And Mrs. Paul
Zaner .

She was married to Paul Gustav Simmert in Butte in 1902. The couple
came to Missoula in1908. Mr.
Simmert, who preceded her in death 11 years ago, was a railroad man
and in later years a city
employee. For the past few years, Mrs. Simmert had been living at her

home at 1335 Cooper Street
with her youngest son, Charles.

Besides her son, Charles, she is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Kate

Zaner of Missoula; Mrs. William
Portis of North Loop, Neb., and lucy Roach of Wellington, Kan; one
brother, Will Decker of Creston,
Iowa; two other sons, Julius C. Simmert of Missoula and Paul
W. of Bozeman; four daughters:
Mrs. Schmautz, Mrs. George Drinville and Mrs. E. C. Styles, all of
Missoula, and Mrs. L. J. Burdett
of Logan; 10 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

From Missoulian Newspaper Dec 9 1948: Funeral services for Ms Nettie
Bertha Simmert, Ö who
died Tuesday afternoon, will be conducted at 3 o'clock Thursday
afternoon at the Marsh & Powell
mortuary chapel. Rev. J. > Kraenzler will officiate and burial will
be in the Missoula cemetery.
